Abstract

This lecture and recital focused on the symbolic use of flowers in vocal literature. Flower symbolism has been used in may forms throughout time. A review of vocal literature finds many songs that include references to flowers in their titles. Investigating the topic further, one can find an even larger number of songs that employ the symbolic use of flowers in the body proper.
