This paper describes and evaluates several different journeys one may take to begin a career in stage management based on individual stage manager interviews, real-time shadowing experiences, and my personal educational experience. This work ties together the different forms of best practice according to examples and advice conveyed in both print and online sources compared with that of the advice provided in the stage manager interviews conducted as well as the information gained from the shadowing instances. All in all, this paper finally evaluates the different future paths an aspiring stage manager could take based on their own experience and preparation level at this moment in time.
