X-ray research in the Department of Physics at the University of Redlands is in the process of shifting its emphasis tot he problem of determining, by x-ray means, the chemical composition of extremely small volumes of matter. It is expected that a cube one micron on a side will be able to be "singled out" for analysis. Chemical knowledge at this volume level is useful in both biological and metallurgical systems.
