Line shape and strength analyses of the R(4,1) line in the 2ν2 region of NH3 have been studied between .1 and 11 Torr for two temperatures using a tunable semiconductor diode laser. Line identification was carried out using a Czerny-Turner spectrometer and by examining the separation between adjacent lines. The theoretical development follows that of S.S. Penner for natural and Doppler broadening. Collision broadening is discussed in terms of statistical broadening by H. Margenau and the kinetic theory of gases by D.E. Burch. Values of half-widths and line strengths are compared with theory.
