Vast amounts of monetary waste and inefficiency existing at the federal level of government have often caused the American federal government to be referred to as the worst run organization in the United States. What accounts for this waste and why does it occur? What factors can be used to explain the large amounts of waste and inefficiency occurring within the federal government? This project will attempt to answer these questions by reviewing various pieces of academic and non academic literature which thoroughly discuss the reasons behind national government waste and inefficiency.
