A Study of The Friedel-Crafts Alkylation of Methyl Substituted Benzenes With l-Tetradecene and Its Dimer
chemistry, alkylation reaction, Friedel-Crafts, l-tetradecene dimer
Chemistry | Physical Sciences and Mathematics
This study was begun under the auspices of Pilot Chemical Company of Los Angeles. It was suggested at that time that addition of long chain alpha olefins to activated benzene might yield interesting products. With the support of Mr. John Morriscoe of Pilot the study began with xylenes and tetradecene, using a Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction. A l-tetradecene dimer was later substituted in the alkylation.
