The correlation of the predictions of molecular orbital calculations and of the results of electron "introduction" experiments has allowed an insight into the steric hindrances of aromatic compounds. Electron "introduction" is any method by which an electron is forced into an orbital of an aromatic system, while two parameters are monitored: 1) the energy and conditions needed to force the electron addition, and 2) the consequences of the higher energy electron's presence in the system.
