It is my belief that many of man's worthwhile labors have been obscured by prejudice and the passage of time. This treatise will discuss those forgotten musical settings of Goethe's "Erl King" which I have been able to recover. This treatise will endeavor to determine which of these merit performance and how they compare with Schubert's masterful Opus 1. I hope that through this research some worthy music which has been temporarily lost to the public will be discovered and brought to performance.
