From the beginning of recorded history tot he present, man has been faced with the problem of finding the proper relationship between himself and his Creator. From this, a subsidiary question has developed: What is the proper relationship of man's religion to his government? After centuries of virtual unity between government and religion, the concept of separation of church and state evolved.
