The impetus of this project was a study of the areas of criminal residence in the city of Redlands by the student author of this paper. The spot-map findings of the 1963 study were that fifty-five percent of the police booking in Redlands occurred in neighborhoods containing only twenty-five percent of the city's population. It was hoped that the community as a whole might be examined to explain this phenomenon.
