Abstract

This paper involves a study of the merger between the Norfolk and Western Railway and the Nickel Plate Road (New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad Co.) and the ensuing lease of the Wabash Railroad Company. This consolidation was consummated on October 16, 1964. The paper's aim is to discover if the merger was in the public interest and to try to estimate the future prospects of this newly merged system.
