Djuna Barnes is a contemporary American writer. She was born at Cornwall-On-Hudson, New York, in 1892, daughter of an American father and a British mother. Privately educated, she entered upon a career of newspaper work in 1913, being, in turn, illustrator, reporter, and special theatrical feature writer for several newspapers and magazines.
