Connectedness is a concept important in the establishment of a rigorous foundation for Analysis. For this reason it is a topic of major concern in Topology. Connectedness serves as the basis for the Intermediate-value Theorem and is an important condition in Cauchy's Theorem and in all theorems making use of the concept of a line integral.
