Wastewater System Application for Capacity Analysis Using ArcGIS 9, ArcHydro, and Model Builder

Utilizing GIS to assess wastewater system capacity enables Public Works Departments to analyze wastewater system capacity based on current status, effects from proposed development, and wastewater main deterioration. Recognizing the immediate need for utility improvements, issuing building permits, and master planning are other local government workflows that may benefit from such a system. This report focuses on the necessary components involved in creating, using, and sustaining a wastewater system capacity analysis application for the City of Montclair, CA using ESRI’s ArcGIS. This paper also provides instructions on how to implement relevant components in ArcHydro and Model Builder, and to guide personnel to maintain and use a wastewater system capacity application.
