La Marge Comme Ressource Pour L'action Dans la Mouvance du Logiciel Libre
Sociology and Anthropology
The phenomenon of free software is an especially interesting case to question the concept of margin and its transformation in resource for action in the digital age. Two cases are studied. On the one hand, developing globally the LibreOffice project shows that key of older software developers were able to organize themselves in the margins to make a common good. Secondly, the holding of the world meetings of free software (RMLL) in Mont de Marsan in 2008 reveals that local activists have been able to mobilize the movement a marginal territory of space digital world. The two developed examples demonstrate that players are able to build on the margins even of the movement to achieve margins of other spaces of representation; the mobilization of the marginality and the margins is facilitated by increasing hybridity of the gap between digital and non-digital.
