Intrigued by the argument that power differentials are much more important than ideology in explaining relations between states, this thesis applies the concepts originally developed by Marxist-Leninist inspired "dependencia theory," which explains developed capitalist relations with underdeveloped countries, on the Soviet Union and its relations with "the socialist Commonwealth."
